Michael Duffy joined The Museum of Modern Art in 1993 as Paintings Conservator. In addition to conserving many well-known works from MoMA’s collection, he has led studies into artists’ materials and techniques, including those of René Magritte, Amedeo Modigliani, and Francis Picabia. Most recently, he worked on the exhibition Matisse: The Red Studio. Duffy has also interviewed contemporary artists, including Lee Bontecou and Brice Marden, about their studio practices. Prior to joining the Museum, he held positions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. He holds an MS from the University of Delaware/Winterthur program in art conservation and a BA in art history from Rutgers College.
