![]() Bruce Nauman In this sixty-minute video, Nauman is captured upside down as he performs wearing earmuff headphones in front of a stationary video camera. Over and over, he attempts to repeat the words “lip sync” at exactly the same moment he hears himself just having said it. The repetition in his work of the late 1960s was motivated by new music. He compared his procedure of repeating this phrase, which goes in and out of synchronization, to the composer Steve Reich’s use of a similar technique in his musical composition Come Out.
