Inkjet print
To create A Sitting for Matthew, Sepuya culled imagery from his artistic community. The layered images at the top of the picture are actually the source material for a work by the Matthew named in the title, for which Sepuya himself served as a model. Much of the composition is given over to a cascading black drape, as if to imply that the fabric, a “neutral” studio ground, might cover the messy process of making an image.
