Between 1968 and 1970 Roth worked extensively with chocolate as a medium for multiples. The material is something of a national obsession in Switzerland, where average consumption is twice that of other countries, and it also has dual connotations of pleasure and revulsion, considering its unmistakable resemblance to excrement.
