Frank was a devoted collector of old postcards and other early photographic images of Niagara Falls, despite his claims of never having visited it. In his last two decades, the objects with which he lived—such as the Niagara-related images—became a recurring subject, carrying the weighted meanings of memories and associations. In this composition, in which the artist captured his self-portrait in a reflection, Frank wrote his PO box number under a row of postcards lined up on a shelf. It is an invitation to the viewer to correspond with him, to exchange memories.
