Marisol made this work following her return to New York City after traveling across South Asia and Latin America, an experience she described as being “reborn—cleansed and purified.” The print’s exuberant plant/woman has an abundance of sensual touchpoints: two hands nearly caress the corners of her mouth, while her third hand reaches to playfully pinch a tailbone-like leaf. Marisol created this work by imprinting catalpa leaves (native to some of the warm climates where she had traveled) as well as parts of her body onto a lithographic stone. The resulting impression suggests a body intertwined with nature.

For this print Marisol constructed a self-portrait out of catalpa leaves found near the ULAE workshop, inking the leaves before pressing them onto the stone. The dazzling and unnatural color adds to the composition's seductive impact.
