To make this work, the artist searched the internet for simple human behaviors and tasks such as “writing” and “feeding.” He then chose three of the resulting images to form the basis of this composition.

The negative spaces on the wall trace the figures found in those images, revealing them in silhouette against glossy, machine-cut shapes. Products of Price’s experiments in material processing, these forms are composed of richly grained wood veneers encased in a clear plastic. “I said, I’m going to make beautiful objects, and they’re going to be empty—the human content is missing, it’s literally been cut out,” the artist recalled. “All that’s left are the materials of the frame, the thing around the art: the wood, the reflections, the wall.”
