How do we imagine worlds that haven’t been imagined yet? Dismayed that architecture has increasingly become an apparatus for exclusion—used to create border walls, prisons, and detention centers—theLab-lab for architecture conceives alternative worlds and design outputs that question the systems and infrastructures that govern our lives. Intake Facility for an Anonymous Client, set on New York’s Governors Island, processes angels who are migrating from heaven to earth. By visualizing how nonhuman bodies would adapt and adhere to our contemporary institutions, the project explores the relationships between displacement, detention, uncompensated labor, gender, and sexuality.
