Scott, who was enrolled at Oakland, California’s Creative Growth Art Center, a nonprofit art studio for artists with developmental, mental, and physical disabilities, would take found objects—in this case, what appear to be two blue plastic A’s—and densely encase them in woolen yarn, twine, rope, and other fibers. Scott lived with Down syndrome and was both deaf and non-verbal. While she did not verbally communicate about her artistic choices, her confidence and imagination are apparent in her precision and choices regarding texture and composition. Scott's sculpture echoes the spirit of transformation and play at the core of Fluxus.
