MoMA Presents: William Friedkin’s The French Connection

Mar 4–9, 2009

MoMA

Director William Friedkin on the set of The French Connection with Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider. The French Connection. 1971. USA. Directed by William Friedkin

William Friedkin’s gritty 1970s classic is the paradigmatic rip-roaring chase film, complete with New York City street and subway pursuits, drug smugglers, corrupt cops, and one good guy—true-life detective Eddie Egan—who makes his own rules. Friedkin has called this new digital restoration the definitive version of his masterwork.

Organized by Rajendra Roy, The Celeste Bartos Chief Curator of Film.
