Discover how artist Nico Williams began experimenting with beadwork, and get a close look at his remarkable artistic practice. Then learn the basics of peyote stitch beading during this live, member-only workshop. Participants will follow a simple bullseye pattern to make a sparkling beaded triangle.
Nico Williams is a member of Aamjiwnaang First Nation (Anishinaabe) who currently lives and works in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, Canada. His multidisciplinary, often collaborative practice is centered around sculptural beadwork. Williams’s sculptures are sometimes highly patterned abstract geometric forms, sometimes sparkling representations of familiar objects, and always handwoven from hundreds of glass beads.
Members can check in at the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54th Street, near Fifth Avenue. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the workshop.
