In this animated short, a Spaghetti Western with a twist, warlords do battle on a chessboard.

Tajrobeh (Experience). 1973. Iran. Directed by Abbas Kiarostami. Screenplay by Kiarostami, Amir Naderi. With Hedayatollah Navid, Hibibollah Safarian, Anne Mohammad Tarikhi. DCP. In Persian; English subtitles. 53 min.

Tajrobeh, Kiarostami’s first mid-length film, is the story of a photography shop errand-boy in love with the daughter of a client. Written by Amir Naderi as a piece of autobiographical reflection, this is one of Kiarostami’s finest pre-revolutionary works about desire and rejection.

This film accompanies Iranian Cinema before the Revolution, 1925–1979.
