Poet and performance artist John Giorno once said, “Poetry is not, should not, cannot be confined to the printed word.” First presented at MoMA in the 1970 exhibition Information and now on view, Giorno’s Dial-A-Poem captures poetry’s ability to connect people across genres, disciplines, and generations. In collaboration with guest poet Camonghne Felix, celebrate the power of poetry and share your original work or the work of your favorite poet during this live open-mic night in MoMA’s Sculpture Garden. Participants must reserve a performance slot on the night of the event; sign-up is on a first-come, first-served basis. Readings are limited to a maximum of two minutes and thirty seconds, and work must adhere to our community guidelines, ensuring a safe, inclusive space for all those in attendance.
Camonghne Felix, poet and essayist, is the author of Dyscalculia: A Love Story of Epic Miscalculation (One World, 2023), which was hailed by Time magazine and Vogue as one of the most anticipated books of 2023, and Build Yourself a Boat (Haymarket Books, 2019), which was longlisted for the 2019 National Book Award in Poetry, shortlisted for the PEN/Open Book Awards, and shortlisted for the Lambda Literary Awards. Her poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Academy of American Poets, Harvard Review, Lit Hub, The New Yorker, PEN America, Poetry magazine, Freeman’s, and elsewhere. Her collection of essays, Let the Poets Govern, is forthcoming from One World, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
Please enter through the Ronald S. and Jo Carole Lauder Building entrance at 11 West 53 Street. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the event. In the event of rain, this reading will take place indoors.
