Sandra (Léa Seydoux) is a single mother, widowed at a young age, who works as a translator while caring for her ailing father, a retired philosopher with a rapidly deteriorating memory (a poignant performance by the veteran Pascal Greggory). One day, a run-in with an old friend (Melvil Poupaud), a devoted father in a loveless marriage, sparks a passionate but rocky affair, upturning the delicate balance of life as she knew it.
