The right to vote has never been simply about enacting legislation. Action must follow. In Lowndes County, Alabama, the racist political reality of the early 1960s meant that, even though the population was 80% Black, there were no registered Black voters. Acclaimed documentarians Sam Pollard and Geeta Gandbhir have crafted an intricate, epic story of this community’s fight for representation and elected power. Both a critical historical record and an urgently relevant contemporary roadmap, this film reveals the perils of complacency and serves as a call to action.
