Les plages d’Agnès (The Beaches of Agnès). 2008. France. Written and directed by Agnès Varda. 35mm. 113 min.
This film is not a formal memoir, but rather a means by which Varda, then 80 years old, considers the many avenues of her rich life, recalling significant moments of joy, creation, love, and loss. Using excerpts from her past films, she revisits long-ago memories. Considered one of the creators of the French New Wave movement with her 1956 film La Pointe Courte, Varda, who is now almost 90, was presented with an honorary Oscar at the 2018 Academy Awards. In French; English subtitles.
