The Invite. 2026. USA. Directed by Olivia Wilde. Screenplay by Will McCormack, Rashida Jones. With Wilde, Penelope Cruz, Edward Norton, Seth Rogen. DCP courtesy A24. 107 min.
Olivia Wilde out-Albees Edward Albee (and out-LaButes Neil LaBute) in this viciously funny four-hander about a couple who inadvertently spice up their marriage when they invite over their swinging neighbors for a casual dinner party. Deftly adapted by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones from the popular Spanish movie Sentimental, The Invite confirms Wilde as an uncommonly, if unsurprisingly, gifted director of actors, each of whom plays their part to perfection: the put-upon neurotic wife (Wilde, paying homage to Diane Keaton), the half-hearted husband (Seth Rogen), the Tantric seeker (Ed Norton), and the free-spirited bohemian (Penelope Cruz).
