Send Help. 2026. USA. Directed by Sam Raimi. Screenplay by Damian Shannon, Mark Swift. With Rachel McAdams, Dylan O’Brien. DCP courtesy 20th Century Studios. 113 min.
Toxic masculinity has fueled a number of significant horror films, from Stanley Kubrick’s classic The Shining (1980) to Zach Cregger’s breakthrough Barbarian (2022). Returning to his roots, Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi gives us a horror-comedy for the #MeToo generation. When a corporate jet crashes near a remote tropical island, the survivors, misogynist CEO Bradley Preston (Dylan O’Brien) and his humiliated financial strategist Linda Liddle (Rachel McAdams) wage a battle of the sexes that escalates from psychological rivalry to bloody warfare. Tailoring his extravagant signature style—kinetic camera movement, unsettling close-ups, and comic excess—to a mordant, reality TV–inspired script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, Raimi has produced his most engaging, dramatically effective film since Drag Me to Hell (2009). Frequent collaborator Danny Elfman’s muted score, while fixed on McAdams’s character, is manic when it needs to be.
