Set along the US–Mexico border, Jesús Salvador Treviño’s Roots of Blood, a foundational film in Chicano cinema, uses a revolt by textile workers who take matters into their own hands to tell a broader story about human trafficking between the two countries and the exploitative labor conditions faced by Chicanos and Mexican undocumented immigrants. In Chicana, her UCLA student film, Sylvia Morales combines historical footage, murals, and documentary footage to craft a poignant tribute to Chicana and Mexican women, from Aztec history through Mexican independence and the revolution, up to the present day.
