In the traumatic aftermath of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, Clara Law made this harrowing tale of a man (Tony Leung Ka-fai) who is illegally smuggled into the US to look for his missing wife (Maggie Cheung), a student who left China to search for a better life for her family. As a 15-year-old Chinese runaway assists his dangerous search in New York’s unforgiving streets, his wife’s traces reveal the real facets of an expatriate nightmare.

This film accompanies Immigrant Nation: People in Transit.
