Master of psychological unease Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse) has created one of his most resonant genre experiments, a chillingly detached examination of how online cruelty metastasizes into real-world violence. Masaki Suda stars as Yoshii, a frustrated factory worker who abandons his day job to become a full-time online reseller, exploiting both customers and suppliers behind the protective anonymity of e-commerce. As he flips dubious medical devices, counterfeit handbags, and collectible figurines at exorbitant markups, his victims know him only through screens and pseudonyms, creating what Yoshi believes is an unbridgeable divide between online aggression and IRL consequences. But as grievances accumulate on anonymous message boards, what begins as performative digital rage coalesces into coordinated physical vengeance. Kurosawa constructs a slow-burn first hour before detonating into a harrowing spectacle as Yoshii’s victims—not professional killers but ordinary people radicalized online—mount a sloppy, brutal campaign of retribution. The film’s deft tonal shift from creeping dread to explosive violence mirrors its central insight: the internet doesn’t merely enable cruelty from a safe distance, it radicalizes and organizes collective anger that inevitably bleeds into the physical world.
