The Voice of Hind Rajab. 2025. Tunisia/France. Directed by Kaouther Ben Hania. In Arabic; English subtitles. 89 min.
On January 29, 2024, volunteers at the Palestine Red Crescent Society fielded emergency calls from six-year-old Hind Rajab, who was trapped inside a car in Gaza after shelling by Israeli forces. Surrounded by the dead bodies of her family members, Hind pleaded desperately for rescue. Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania (Four Daughters) reconstructs those harrowing hours in this gut-wrenching docudrama, interweaving Hind’s voice—excerpted from the original audio recordings—with dramatized reenactments of the call center responders. A powerful memorial to a voice that shall never be forgotten, the film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival.
