Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone have demonstrated a fearlessness in their collaborations (The Favorite, Poor Things) that has captured the imagination of audiences and critics. Their work in Bugonia—he directs, she acts, they both produce—operates at an entirely new level of trust and adventurousness. Based on the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, and featuring an astonishing performance by Jesse Plemons (with whom they previously collaborated in Kinds of Kindness), Bugonia is an allegorical fantasy as brutal as it is honest about the world we have created and the finale we are hurtling toward.
