Join us for a special night of play between abstraction and figuration, figure and ground, negative and positive space, as we celebrate the artist Ruth Asawa and the exhibition Ruth Asawa: A Retrospective. Artist Party is a celebration of artists and their ideas through pop-up performances, art making, storytelling, and live music. For this Artist Party, we will gather to honor Ruth Asawa’s dedication to boundless experimentation, continuous learning, and community.
Activations throughout the Museum will feature evolving soundscapes by Somàtica (Jazzy Charles, Zuzu Silk, Ciara Vera), poetry readings by Jen Bervin, movement artistry by Mio Ishikawa with Steve Bangerter, Tamisha A. Guy, and Ohad Mazar, paper-folding activity by Fritz Horstman, and a custom photo environment designed by Tim Ferro. There will be a closing DJ set by Haruka.
Costuming for pop-up performances by Mio Ishikawa provided by Elanur Erdoğan.
The sixth-floor galleries will be open for Ruth Asawa: A Retrospective from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. The first-floor exhibitions Artist’s Choice: Arthur Jafa—Less Is Morbid and The Many Lives of the Nakagin Capsule Tower will also be open during this time.
Pop-up bars will be open throughout the lobby.
Advance tickets are now sold out. A limited quantity of walk-up tickets will be available for purchase on the day of the event.
Accessibility
An accessibility information table in the main lobby will be staffed throughout the event. Fidgets and noise-dampening earbuds will be available at this table while supplies last.
The Marlene Hess and James D. Zirin Lounge on the first floor can be used as a respite from crowds, and may be somewhat quieter than other areas. Food and drink can be brought into this space.
