Join us to explore the exhibition Hilma af Klint: What Stands Behind the Flowers and create your own mixed-media collage inspired by the artist.
In this hands-on session we’ll delve into themes of nature, abstraction, and spirituality as expressed in the work of Hilma af Klint. We’ll learn collage techniques, experiment with composition, and create and add mixed-media elements onto Japanese Suminagashi (“floating ink”) paper sheets to create dynamic, multilayered artworks.
This program is free and open to all high school–age participants. No previous art-making experience or registration is necessary.
Open Art Space meets every Thursday, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54 Street, near Fifth Avenue.

Open Art Space is a free weekly after-school program dedicated to creating a safe space for LGBTQ+ high school students and their allies to create, explore, and connect with other creative teens.
Open Art Space meets on Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at MoMA’s Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54th Street, near Fifth Avenue. Programs do not meet on NYC Public Schools holidays or during school closures.
Monthly Films at Open Art Space
Each month enjoy free screenings of cult classics and contemporary films. After, stay for themed parties, art-making activities and discussions with filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals.
RSVP encouraged. Walk-ins welcome. This program is free and open to all high school–age participants. No previous art-making experience is necessary. Snacks, OMNY cards, and supplies will be provided.
