Narrator: MoMA opens in 1929, just as these ideas are percolating internationally. And curators, like the founding director Alfred Barr and Philip Johnson, saw the interior as at the core of the ideology of modernism, which is about breaking down distinctions between architecture and interior and fine art and sculpture, and bringing them all together to create these spaces that have a direct impact on people's lives. And I think that was part of MoMA's mission in displaying many of these interiors.
