Curator, Wendy Weitman: It's quite anatomically correct. Kiki Smith very much wanted to learn about the human body. And as an artist the way she learns about things is making them. Whether it's a sculpture or a print making an image of something is the way she as a person learns about them. So making an extraordinary cast of the inside of your mouth into an artwork that is quite as raw as that one. And it's pretty scary looking this thing and yet I think it's very, very beautiful.
